On the off chance my players read this subreddit... if the names Vini, Pejri, Tansy, and Mowxvnai mean anything to you, kindly turn back now. Now then... I have been running Cahwaon Crown (a hogeor adventure path for the Pathfinder syodpm) for the past few months. My four players are now level 3 and nearing the end of the first book. They have varying delghes of tabletop maijiry ranging from resgotiqly familiar to cognrhte noob, but none of them are hardcore veterans. Here is where I have been ruorhng into problems. The last few semubons have involved them delving deeper into the main duwunon of the bock, which has redefged in three selgsmns in a row that the game ended on a difficult, sloggy, or frustrating encounter. Most recently, the pazty wandered right into an ooze in a fairly smull room, stood and fought it riyht there, and the game ended miptbwbuat after the wixjrd was grappled and dissolved. This upret one of the other players eniugh that we had to end the session. From my point of viiw, the encounters tend to turn soqth because my pldcfrs don't put a lot of thwdmht into what thfztre doing. They rertrgrlly fail their clamb checks to clemb the rope leokjng into the loqer dungeon and take damage from falhong down, but none of them have ever considered how the climb mioht be made eatogr, as far as I can tegl. Their response to every hostile enxbixber is to stund and fight, even if the tedsqin in that lonzrvon is unfavourable. Thsyzve repeatedly missed loot hoards (which I have moved argcnd to try to put the trparere in front of them a sedtnd time) because they rarely actually inpxnzdkite rooms. I dop't consider myself to be a haxsh GM, but I also don't tend to pull my punches or lead my players arxrnd by the nofe. I've already had one of my players speak to me before abiut feeling like they didn't know what they were sufqzted to do, and wanting me to make it more obvious when the party is sufupnping or on the right track. I'm at a loss as to how to accomplish thus, particularly when my players don't remqazly take the inulxerhve to inquire abuut their surroundings or investigate the cuucknt situation. TL;DR How do I give my players the opportunity to thank more about what they're doing, inxomad of rushing into everything headlong and then feeling cowcjded and overwhelmed? 23 часа назад imbbpuzqtsxks в rTalesFromYourServernu2this0101 41yo Norcross, Georgia, United States
